Do you give advice when...

I was in the grocery store looking at hair products in an attempt to re-stock. A young lady was on the same aisle looking at products as well. She had her head covered, maybe in efforts to hide a bad hair day. I could tell she was natural by the 'kitchen'. Being the person I am I want to offer advice about my product picks. But I remembered that I had been at work all day and my hair was simple not its stylish best. It had been a long week and I was try something new; had not yet perfected the style. I saw the Giovanni products in her basket so she was on the right path. But still I felt maybe a little assistance wouldn't hurt. My hair though it looked healthy with a little curl definition it was still not praise worthy. So I decided against it. I thought "this lady is going to think I'm crazy; TRYIN' to give advice and my head lookin' a hot mess!"

What your take on this? Would you offer advice if you were in the same situation?

  2. I can understand why you hesitated, but at the same time, there have been plenty of times when I could've used a little bit of advice while shopping for hair products. While a lot of women probably WOULD have thought "Is this woman crazy? Look at her hair!" A lot of other women (myself included) would've been impressed by the knowledge and thankful for the information.

  3. Hee hee -- I would've done the same thing, too. But ... if she were holding a product that I really liked, I might have reassured her that she made a good choice. You know, girl to girl kind of thing (wink)

  4. I probably would have done the same thing, but I always welcome advice from others.

  5. I and probably the covered natural woman wished that you would have said something.. She obviously needed some help. Maybe she just BC'ed and would have welcomed some advice or at least some reassurance that she was on the right track by getting the Giovanni products. Just saying, 'yeah, girl.. Use natural products! That's what I use too" would have probably kept her going on her natural hair journey.

What would have been the worst that could have happened???

But, I say all this, but I know, especially right now (just not sure who my hair is and how to truly give it the best care), I would have done the same thing...

  6. How do you know she needed help just because her hair was covered? She might have been DC'ing on the sly or might have realized she was out of her fav products fresh out of the shower.

Me personally, I only give advice if asked for it. It can be rude to offer unsolicited advice, especially since you don't know the chick from Eve.

  7. I would have thought the same thing, but I have in the past given advice anyway. I usually start with a disclaimer,"Hey I usually dont look like this" or "Gurl I been at work all day," but she probably would have understood/
