Natural Hair Rules has raised a very important question "What are men saying about natural hair?"
I think that that there is a much larger number of black men who are attracted to girls with ’straight’ hair. Society has taught them that Natural is Nappy and Nappy is ugly and undignified. Now there is nothing with wanting to appeal to men. Women like to look physically attractive to men, it’s natural (and vice versa).
I love a woman with natural hair because it is like her finger print. It’s hers and no one has her print. Any man who cannot see the beauty of natural hair is missing the big picture in my opinion. ( Side bar what made Black women straighten there hair to begin with…. Think about it ??) I don’t apportion blame onto women because so much of the female identity is still wrapped up in the patriarchy that controls the majority of societies in the world. I think natural hair is beautiful because it’s blackness personified before manipulation. It’s a shame some black men could not see the beauty of natural hair.
I enjoy a woman who is confident in herself. For example my wife Tamara is wearing natural hair and even with no make up she still looks dynamically gorgeous. Her non-conforming appearance seems to point to the fact that this particular woman is not swayed by the superficial facades of societies standard of what a beautiful black woman is. Natural is beautiful. This does not mean, however, that women who have perms and/or weave are shallow or lost or not real . It just seems that they are less likely to reject the "medias" standards of beauty. I won't say that one is better than the other...just that being confident in your own skin is attractive...regardless of which package it comes in.

Wow!! Great read!
ReplyDeleteYOU HAVE A BEAUTIFUL HUSBAND. i love your relationship
ReplyDeleteOne of the reasons my boyfriend of 3 years said he first stopped when he saw me the day we met was because of my hair. He said he thought, "Look at that natural cutie!" I love that about him. He encourages me to be naturally as I am.
ReplyDeleteAmen brother!
ReplyDeleteThis is the most eloquent reading I've read when dealing with a man's (a Black man at that) perception on natural hair...
ReplyDelete...simply wonderful...
That is wonderful and encouraging!! I did my BC on Friday and my husband likes it alot.
ReplyDeleteYou're blessed to have such an understanding husband...who lets you be you!!!!
ReplyDeleteCool. Its hard for me. Its hard for me to go out where appearance is super important w my natural, but im working on it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post
My husband and son looked at me strange when I did my Big Chop. Now I believe they have an appreciation in my natural beauty. My son even stretch my coils out just to watch them snap back to my head...lol.
ReplyDeleteI just want to say thank you....today I found my self torn between my natural hair or my "individual imprint" and wanting to appeal to men who are at time very fickle creatures. However the mere fact that you see the beauty in your wife's natural hair gives me hope that all is not lost in the world
ReplyDeleteThank you and many blessings.
I know yo man definitely won some love points with you on that one. You are blessed to be loved and appreciated by a beautiful black man. Isn't this what all women want from their man, appreciation!

Now that is just too special! Your husband affirming your decision to be natural...and then just loving it. You guys are blessed! Blessings to you.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this. Unfortunately the guy I talking to right now keeps trying to get me to get extensions or flat iron my hair, he is not feelin my fro but I love it and that is all that matters. I told him if I wanted straight hair I would get a perm. My hair crack days are long over and on the 8th of november I will celebrate one year as a happy nappy. By the way, your hair is beautiful girl.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is Filipino and I'm Black and tonight I let him know that I was taking out my individual braids and wearing my hair natural and short again. He said, "Okay Honey, whatever makes you feel good." I love that my husband has always supported me with my hair endeavors. I told him I felt as though I was wearing the braids for everyone else. I kept getting compliments about how nice I look with the long braided hair, but I felt incomplete and fake! So, tomorrow I will begin the long task of unbraiding my hair. I will be rocking the short do, because I love it and I don't care what others think besides my husband.
ReplyDeleteIf you addicted to crack cream, weaves or other hair nonsense. Girl, step back and really see what is going on. We have GOOD HAIR.

ReplyDeleteMy gf (naturalchica) is natural and I love it. Sometimes i poke fun because I am so happy that she is comfortable with her natural hair. I do admit, I do have a preference towards permed hair, but there is something about having a woman that is confident and that makes me more happy than what i'm "used" to. There are so many girls out there that have permed hair that are so unconfident it actually is a turn-off. Be natural, Be beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND MY MAN IS VERY MUCH THE SAME HE LOVES MY NATURAL HAIR AND I PROMISE NOT TO GO BACK TO PERMS THIS IS ME THIS IS GOOD HAIR THEY BETTER ASK SOMEBODY.....LOL
ReplyDeleteI AGREE!!! MY WIFE IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL WOMAN, AND SHE'S EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL WITH HER NATURAL LOOK. AT FIRST I WAS KIND OF SCARED AS TO HOW IT WOULD TURN OUT AFTER SHE GOT IT DONE, BUT NOW I CAN'T STAY AWAY FROM HER. I LOVE IT.
